Managing the content firehose created by social software
Wide adoption of social software in the enterprise means employees and customers have access to the publish button thereby creating content at a speed that dwarfs what we saw with traditional KM or CMS applications. How are users discovering and consuming content relevant to them?
the big danger in open publishing is creating "noise" - especially when no clear "channels" or organization of content is being followed. any socialsoftware effort needs content gardeners to organize and prune spralling growth. without the gardeners there is just wild prairie (no less beautiful), but difficult to harvest crops of insights from. its so fun to mix metaphors!
